Tansky rec site
Tansky is our South Island riding area tucked just off the highway, with a footprint of 1000 hectares up into the Sooke hills.
There are trails for all levels here, but it is most definitely a hotspot for Hard Enduro!
What to expect
The trails run through a thick second-growth forest, with rock features and elevation changes. There are some very challenging trails here, so check the signage at the trail junctions, or use the Trailforks app to assess the difficulty level as you go.
There is also a trail called “Jr. Enduro Loop” that less-experienced riders can enjoy before venturing farther out into the trail network. This is a doable loop that some riders may still find a bit challenging, as the area is known for roots and rocky terrain, which is the nature of our coastal environment. It really is beautiful out here!
Features
Wolf Ridge is a difficult single-track that works its way up and around the rocky, forested hillside that is popular with intermediate and expert riders.
The Jr. Enduro loop is an approachable single-track for any level, and can be enjoyed by novice riders.
Although the rec site is not serviced, camping is allowed.
Getting there
The Tansky recreation area is located about 35km west of Sooke on Hwy 14.
You’ll find the North Main FSR (gravel road) directly across the highway from the landmark of China Beach Provincial Park. Watch for the signs to China Beach and be prepared to turn.
